Sample of restored statue:
The original Infant of Prague is a wax statue with it's own clothes. Plaster cast copies of the infant are
popular and may be found in many places of worship. The restored statue below is a sample of our work. It
belongs to St. Mathias Church in Muscatine, Iowa.
Restoration is not limited to pieces for a church or business, but also for collectibles and family treasures. We specialize in restoration of
plaster cast statuary over 100 years old and requests come from all over the world.
We treat each piece as if it were our own and you, the customer, are in complete supervision of each piece we restore. We know it's right
when you are happy!
Mick is working on a statue for the Diocese of Davenport (Iowa) at
the Diocesan Center. Although the hair and beard appear to be
one colour, they are actually several blends, along with a little gray
in the beard. This statue was in excellent condition to begin with,
but what damage there was, quickly disappeared, then was
repainted.

Over the years, plaster statues absorb dust, dirt, grease or sometimes
even fire damage. It discolours the paint. This statue was approximately
150 years old, from Bavaria and beloved possession of a very lovely lady
(in her 90's) who said it belonged to her great grandmother, who brought
it to the States from Germany. Through our research, we found this to be
true and you will see in the first picture, the plaster is being restored. The
base was originally poured with burlap as a binder, most of the base had
been broken away and cobbled to keep it together. We rebuilt the base,
took out all the chips in the veil and restored the paint to its original colour
as closely as possible.
Photographs don't do the piece justice. Our customer was delighted with
the results and she had an unveiling party for her friends and family.
